8/5/2023 0 Comments Remove android shortcut bar![]() Now let’s figure out which Apps are responsible for these ads/spam.In the example image below, you can see that one app changed my home page from Google to another search site that tries to mimic Google. Yet another unwanted trait is that some Apps can add bookmarks to your browser without telling you, or change your default home page.Another annoying trait of these Apps is that they can add shortcuts to your Home Screens that also try (sometimes) to look like actual system applications (“Search”, “App Store” etc).Tapping these fake notifications can take you to a web page (usually very spam oriented), prompt you to install an App from the Google Play market (see image below) or another annoying action. They can also have very deceptive text or descriptions to try and make them look legitimate when they are absolutely not. Some of which can be not child-friendly (to the point where I had to blur the screenshot below because the image was so inappropriate). When you ‘pull down’ your Notification Bar, you’ll see a series of “notifications” that are actually nothing more than ads.As illustrated in the screenshot below, you can see that there are a number of “notifications” that are not “system” related even though they’re designed to look as such.To determine which Apps are using these “services” (so that you can delete them, or at least understand what they’re doing) – keep reading. Others can change your default browser home page, collect data about your location, phone information and much more. Other apps can and will add shortcuts to your Home Screens without ‘warning’ you. One such alteration is the constant sending of messages (ads) to your Notification Bar. Some Android Apps use “Ad Services” that can alter your phone or tablet in ways you may not have wanted. Is there another way to freeze in place these not-an-installed-app links/icons? Or, like one comment suggests, develop a vault or inventory app which will save ALL links and icons on ALL your home screens. This guide will take you through the steps to easily determine which Apps are sending spam and ads to your Android Notification window, and how to remove them. Locking the screen does NOT prevent such “website link icons” from becoming erased. This ditty saves you from having to sift thru fresh google searches to find your sites. It’s tedious but helpful when you can’t remember the exact websites. Besides taking a screen shot + emailing it to myself to remind me what I had where on each screen page, I also save time by doing this trick – which works as long as you have not erased your Search History: open chrome, hit the 3 vertical dots > Recent tabs > show full history > and to find your web pages of choice, either scroll down to search by the date you used your website or use the keyword search on the very top – DO NOT HIT THE CLEAR BROWSER Button > then open the webpage and add back to home screen. I am having trouble finding which launcher/app is responsible. The options will vary depending on your device or launcher app.įor some of us, our home screen icons to website links (not actual dl’d apps) are erased after we clear our storage. From there, you might be able to unhide apps. Usually, you bring up the app launcher, then select “ Menu” ( or ). Your device may have a launcher that can set apps to be hidden. Ensure the Launcher Does Not Have the App Hidden Under “ Settings” > “ Apps & notifications” > “ App info“. Choose the app that goes missing, and ensure the app is not disabled. In many cases, the Home screen will refresh and the icon(s) will return. Press and hold the “ Power” button, then select “ Restart“. If you haven’t tried to restart the device yet, give that a try. If you have a Samsung device, it may be called “ TouchWiz“. Looks for something related to or contains the words “ Home” or “ Launcher” (Example: Nova Launcher). ![]() The app we are looking for will differ depending on the device. Select the app that handles the launcher.Go to “ Settings” > “ Apps & notifications” > “ App info“.This step will reset your home screen completely and is only recommended if disappearing icons is a continuous problem.
